AstroRad - evaluation of a new generation of an anti-radiation suit
StemRad
An AstroRad is an anti-radiation protective suit based on selective protection that has been developed to protect the astronauts on their way to the moon and Mars. In prolonged missions, radiation in these areas might damage their function and in the long run they might even be fatal. The suit is currently in the ergonomic testing stage by a NASA team in the International Space Station, in a study being conducted by the Israel Space Agency.
The second Israeli in space, Eytan Stibbe, will be joining the team in the study and will wear the suit under microgravity conditions for a variable length of time during his routine activities, assessing the range of mobility, comfort, and overall user experience with the suit. Stibbe will be providing critical feedback, which will assure that the AstroRad will be fit for use in prolonged missions into deep space.
